… and i am severely underwhelmed.

The impression is of a poster-sized 3d postcard from the 80s, the kind with thick, striped plastic glued over a photo print. True, the picture is smoother (because it is farther away), and it does move, but it is essentially the same thing. Unless you’re focussed on the 3D, it doesn’t work very well. That alone kills this generation for me, I can practically see the paper at the corners peeling off, and I tired of the effort after three minutes or so of trying.

Then, apparently, I need to have the shades on at all times to look at the postcard. And they are dark. I guess this probably works well enough in a movie theater, but in my living room? Thanks, but no, thanks, I prefer to be able to take my eyes off the babble box at any time without moving my hands too.

Finally, looking at a sports event and two three dee movies, it seems 3D programs aren’t created equal. When the scene isn’t “3D ready”, e.g. the object of interest is too far away from the 3D setup (and, for “real” events, like sports 10 meters or so seems to be very far away), the 3D-ness just fades away. In other words, the tech may arguably be here in some form, but sufficient skills to produce content seem to be sorely lacking.

In other words, 3D tee vee is still a few years away.
